Give it a try, and you may end up enjoying it. And does every rapper need generic Chris Brown on their album? Nicki Minaj obliterated ‘I Luv Dem Strippers,’ outdoing 2 Chainz with her pure craziness. Drake stole ‘No Lie’ from 2 Chainz, though 2 Chainz does hold his own with his sneering verses. Also, the guest appearances sometimes outshone 2 Chainz. This isn’t an album for the slow jam – the slowest songs on this album still have pulsing bass and furious lyrics – but that would be detrimental to a rapper of 2 Chainz’ style. There are a few missed chances, such as the weak use of Mike Posner and plenty of weak lyrics that could have been improved. On the negative side, the subject matter is strictly drugs, sex, and money. Who else could pull off a line like, “She got a big booty, so I call her Big Booty?” Honestly, though his lyrics are far from pristine, the grit and the rawness make him thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. He poses hilarious metaphors and plenty of instantly quotable one-liners. He holds his own toed up with Kanye West and outshines the once-brilliant Lil Wayne. If you get that, you can listen to this album. This album is very little substance, but plenty of good fun. Instead, we got booty, money, and other dreams that don’t constitute a true story, though they may very well make a ‘tru’ story. Music track, ‘Mercy.’ When this album came out, I was expecting the second coming of Jesus in rap land, or basically, the second coming of Kanye West.

I was expecting a lot from this album after hearing his verse on the summer anthem G.O.O.D. Since his breakout verse on Nicki Minaj’s hit ‘Beez in the Trap,’ I’ve followed him very closely. Now don’t judge me, but I am a huge fan of Mr. All the while, rap listeners everywhere can’t figure out whether this guy is a genius or the worst rapper alive. Oh yeah, and he released this number 1 album. In only a few months, 2 Chainz has reinvented himself, exploded from obscurity into the forefront of the rap game, and tore apart the MTV VMAs with his debut performance.
